Duke Signee Destroys Defender Before Splashing NBA Three

There’s no shortage of Cooper Flagg mixtapes. Nonetheless, the 17-year-old Duke basketball recruiting prize continues providing new material for more. That was again the case over the weekend as Flagg helped power Montverde Academy (Fla.) to two more blowout wins over formidable competition at the Bob McKillop Invitational in New York, improving the record of this season’s clear-cut top prep squad to 28-0. The 6-foot-9, 200-pound five-star, a lifelong fan of the Blue Devils who hails from Maine and ranks No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, displayed an array of NBA-ready skills at the event.

But one move stood out from the rest. It was of the ankle-breaking variety at the expense of a hapless defender. And it culminated in a swish from the NBA 3-point line to give Montverde a four-point lead late in the first quarter of Friday night’s eventually comfortable 90-58 victory over Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.).

He finished the contest with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and one block. It’s just another on an ever-growing list of brilliant Cooper Flagg performances.

Flagg highlights a 2024 Duke basketball recruiting class that ranks No. 1 in the country. The other four signees are Wisconsin Lutheran five-star forward Kon Knueppel, North Meck (N.C.) five-star wing Isaiah Evans, and two Paul VI Catholic (Va.) teammates in four-star forward Darren Harris and five-star big man Patrick Ngongba II.
