Auburn Tigers flip top recruit Amaris Williams from Florida

Amaris Williams has flipped his commitment.

The 2024 top-50 recruit has flipped from the Florida Gators to the Auburn Tigers.

Amaris Williams is one of the top players in the 2024 class

The massive defensive lineman originally committed to the Gators back in June. However, on Wednesday, Williams shocked the Gators by signing with a division rival.

Per the 247Sports rankings, Williams is the No. 34 overall player in the class, the No. 12 defensive lineman, and the No. 1 player out of North Carolina.

Florida continues to lose quality prospects

Williams is just the latest high-profile recruit to flip from the Gators. The Gators have also seen Xavier Filsaime, Adarius Hayes, and Nasir Johnson decommit recently.

The Tigers, meanwhile in sitting a nice position. Currently, the Tigers have the No. 8 class for 2024. The class is buoyed by Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson, and Demarcus Riddick, among others.

Williams spoke on his decision to flip to the Tigers and credited his relationship with the coaching staff.

“The chance to play early and the people I get to be around every day,” Williams said of his choice. “Especially the coaches I get to be coached by. Coach JG (Jeremy Garrett), Coach Trell (Vontrell King-Williams) and Coach Freeze.”

The Tigers will look to finish off the 2024 class strong and get ready to improve for the upcoming season. The Tigers will kick off the 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Alabama A&M.
