As a result of an injury, Stoke City make an emergency recall of a young goalkeeper.

Tommy Simkin, an England youth goalkeeper, returns from Solihull Moors with immediate effect before of Stoke City’s Championship fixture at Coventry.

Following Frank Fielding’s injury, Tommy Simkin has returned to Stoke City with immediate effect.

The 18-year-old keeper, who was nominated to England’s under-20 team today, will back up Jack Bonham in the Championship at Coventry tomorrow after an impressive three months on loan at Solihull Moors. Simkin has six clean sheets in 19 appearances with Solihull Moors, who play at the top of the National League.

Simkin, a former national martial arts champion, rose through the ranks at Stoke, initially playing outfield before impressing as an under-14s emergency keeper. He’s gained a reputation for shot-stopping heroics.

Holding down a regular starting spot at that level and regularly putting in high-quality performances is uncommon for a goalkeeper Tommy’s age and demonstrates his potential.

“We are grateful to Solihull Moors for providing him with such a platform over the past few months, and we are excited to have him in and around our first team squad beginning tomorrow at Coventry.”
