West Virginia University bolstered its backfield this spring by signing Cam Skattebo, an experienced running back from the transfer portal. Head coach Rich Rodriguez continues to strengthen WVU’s roster ahead of the 2025 campaign.

A Proven Playmaker

Cam Skattebo brings a notable resume to Morgantown. After three seasons at Miami and a redshirt year at SMU, he enters WVU with one year of eligibility remaining. His blend of power and speed makes him a valuable addition to the Mountaineers’ offense.

‎ A Second RB Addition

Cam Skattebo signing marks WVU’s second running back from the portal this cycle. Rodriguez and his coaching staff are aiming for depth and versatility in their rushing attack. With Jahiem White already carrying the early-down load, Knighton offers splash-play ability and rotation options.

Cam Skattebo arrives ready to compete for snaps. His college experience at Power 5 programs equips him to adapt quickly to WVU’s system.

Backfield Versatility

The Mountaineers now feature a two-headed rushing corps—veteran White and the newly added Cam Skattebo—giving Rodriguez flexibility in play-calling and personnel groupings.

Offensive Strategy

With several departures, the Mountaineers needed talent in the backfield. Cam Skattebo’s addition helps maintain a balanced offensive attack, blending ground pressure with explosive touches.

Cam Skattebo joins a wave of transfers, as WVU added 26 portal players in January and another 12 afterward, reshaping the roster across multiple positions. The incoming cadre paired with a 15-freshman recruiting class shows WVU’s commitment to rapid rebuild and competitiveness in the Big 12.

What to watch

Early Enrollees: Will Cam Skattebo participate in early spring practices and summer training? His involvement could speed his integration.

Backfield Rotation: How Rodriguez uses both runners alongside QB Jalen Daniels will shape WVU’s offensive style.

Playoff Aspirations: With added experience and talent, the Mountaineers aim to elevate their standing in a premier Power 5 conference.

By acquiring Cam Skattebo, WVU addresses both immediate backfield needs and long-term depth. His experience, coupled with Jahiem White’s continued presence, gives the Mountaineers a dynamic and trustworthy rushing tandem as they prepare for a pivotal 2025 season in the Big 12.
