Crews battled fire and ice early Monday morning, January 20 in Williamson County.

They were called to a vehicle fire just before 6:45 a.m. on the 1300 block of Pittsburg Road

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of an SUV reported he pulled over to the side of the road after he began to smell smoke resembling an electrical fire.

The sheriff’s office said smoke then began coming out from under the hood and flames broke out from the engine compartment.

The driver was able to get out of the 2014 Ford safely before it became fully engulfed in flames.

Crews with the Williamson County Fire Protection District arrived on the scene and put out the fire.

The sheriff’s office said the roadway was closed briefly because it became icy and impassable. The extremely cold temperatures froze the water used to put out the fire, creating a slick roadway.

Crews with the Williamson County Highway Department arrived on the scene and cleared the ice from the roadway, allowing Pittsburg Road to reopen.
