Calabria rejoins the Italy squad, but Immobile is absent.
10 November (Reuters) – Defender Davide Calabria has been called up to Luciano Spalletti’s Italy team for the final two European Championship qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine later this month, but Lazio captain Ciro Immobile has been left out.
AC Milan captain Calabria, who has not played for Italy since June 2022, was named to the 29-man squad on Friday following his recent strong performances for his club.
Immobile, who struggled with a hamstring injury earlier this season, was not called up despite recent outstanding form for Lazio, which includes scoring the sole goal in Tuesday’s Champions League home triumph over Feyenoord.
Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus and Andrea Colpani of Monza were both called up for the first time.
Italy is third in Group C with 10 points, three points behind Ukraine but with a game in hand.
On November 17, Italy will face North Macedonia, a team they have yet to defeat in their last three meetings.
They will finish their campaign against Ukraine on November 20 in Leverkusen in a match that will determine who earns the second automatic qualification position.
England, which leads the standings with 16 points, has already qualified for the finals in Germany next year.
